I thought I had a decent understanding of emceeing before this guy came around. After I heard him for the first time I realized I was absolutely clueless. I can say without a shadow of doubt that had this man not created Illmatic I probably would not be the emcee I am today. That’s just real talk. I was a kid when he debuted and he was like nothing I’ve ever seen before him.
As a matter of fact he was like nothing the world has ever seen before him. Although he’s not as popular as he once was for whatever reason, I’m not here to debate that topic, I’m just hear to pay my respects to the man who brought back New York hip hop in the 90’s, and made me burn my book and start from scratch!
Here’s to Nas before he dropped the Nasty.
